Technical Awareness
Beware of Cybercriminals
Phishing is the attempt to obtain sensitive information such as usernames, passwords, social security numbers, and credit card details. Phishing is typically carried out by fraudulent emails or instant messaging. Phishing is popular with cybercriminals, as it is far easier to trick someone into clicking a malicious link in a seemingly legitimate email than trying to break through a computer’s defenses. Typically, a victim receives a message that appears to have been sent by a known contact or organization. We have been made aware of several of these attacks lately with criminals sending emails posing as PRTC.
Please be aware that PRTC would never use email to request or collect sensitive personal information. If you receive an email from any source requesting personal information delete it immediately and never click on an associated link. If you would like more information on how to protect yourself from cybercriminals please feel free to contact us at 864-682-3131.
